IAPH-MEDports seminar expands ESI audience

IAPH held its first joint seminar with the MEDPorts Association on 30 November, focusing on the Environmental Ship Index (ESI) and how it could help positively impact Mediterranean shipping emissions reductions. The seminar, hosted by the Port of Barcelona, saw presentations from IAPH technical director Antonis Michail and business consultant Nick Blackmore, as well as Port of Amsterdam’s Henri van der Weide, who co-leads the working group for the ESI At Berth Project. The audience for the seminar heard how ESI can be used as a proven, practical tool to meet the demanding ambitions of the most recent Regional Transport Action Plan and support the development of a Mediterranean Emissions Control Area (ECA). On the following day, the Port of Barcelona also graciously hosted the 6th ESI Stakeholder Assembly, at which ESI Incentive Providers from across the globe discussed the latest planned developments for the system. IAPH’s collaboration with MEDports will continue later this month at a seminar on Digital Transformation, Innovation and Cooperation held in Casablanca, hosted by Morocco’s Nationale Agence des Ports (ANP) on 13 December. IAPH communications director Victor Shieh will be a guest speaker during a panel discussion on innovation for sustainable development.
