Ports and Harbours Bureau, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism

The following roles are assigned to Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT) by the Port and Harbor Law.

Policy formulation for the development and administration of nationwide ports and harbors

  1. Establishment of necessary laws and regulations
  2. Providing advice and guidance on port administration and operation to port management bodies
  3. Authorizing development plans for major ports
  4. Financial assistance for port management bodies in relation to port construction projects
  5. Implementation of port construction projects (projects under the direct control of the central government)
  6. Improvement and maintenance of shipping channels outside the port area
  7. Establishment of technological standards for planning, design, and construction of ports and harbors
  8. Surveys and research concerning port technology
