The Associated Icelandic Ports was established on 1 January 2005. The company is responsible for harbour activities in the Old Reykjavík Harbour, Sundahöfn, Grundartangi and in Akranes, as well as facilities for smaller boats in Borgarnes. Associated Icelandic Ports bases its operations on a 100-year history of port management, which is, at the same time a remarkable and major part of the history of the municipalities involved in the company. Aside from fishing vessel operators, transport companies and marine-based industries, large and small, recent years have seen considerable growth in marine-based tourism operations. This growth has led to vibrant, bustling life and culture in the area. On the whole, therefore, the harbour is a fisheries port, tourism port, leisure activities port and a cultural port. Diverse facilities provide the company with ample room to expand in many areas of daily life and can, on such foundations, benefit its owners, the public and the business sector.
