The latest scores of the IAPH Environmental Ship Index (ESI) were published by the scheme administrator Green Award Foundation on 1 April. The number of vessels with an ESI score of 20 or above is at 4,552 and the total number of vessels in the ESI database is at 6,021. The average ESI score is 32.3. The number of incentive providers now stands at 76. In 2026, the main ESI score for air emission will transfer to ‘ESI Core’ and accordingly all Incentive Providers (IPs) are advised to adjust their incentives accordingly, as scores may vary significantly. Via email, Green Award Foundation recently provided a useful data file to Incentive Providers to assist with this process and ensure a smooth transition. The file provides an overview of vessels that currently have an ESI (air) score, along with their simulated ESI Core scores. ESI users that have any questions or concerns about the transition process should contact Manfred Lebmeier, senior environmental advisor at Hamburg Port Authority and a member of the ESI Transition Team.
