Ahead of the Ports Australia Biennial Conference, the IAPH Regional Forum for South East Asia and Oceania was held on Tuesday 22 September at the Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney. The event was attended by IAPH president Jens Meier (CEO, Hamburg Port Authority), managing director Patrick Verhoeven, VP for South East Asia and Oceania Marika Calfas (CEO, NSW Ports), VP for America North Gene Seroka (executive director, Port of Los Angeles), VP for Asia, South/West, East & Middle East Ichio Motono (senior executive director, Yokohama Port Corporation), immediate past president of IAPH (2021-2023) Captain K. Subramaniam (general manager, Port Klang Authority), and past president of IAPH (2013-2015) Grant Gilfillan (chairman, North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation). The event included three workshops covering respectively decarbonisation & climate change; technology, digitisation & cyber; and resilience and productivity. In his opening presentation on the IAPH work programme, Patrick noted the influx of new members from South East Asia & Oceania region, totalling 12 additional regular and associate members in 2026, thanks to the efforts of Marika Calfas.
