Indian and Japanese ports exchange knowledge

Chennai Port Authority (ChPA) and Kamarajar Port Limited (KPL) hosted a successful three-day knowledge exchange program with six major Japanese ports last week (21-23 October). The program brought together senior leadership teams from prominent Japanese ports, including Tomakomai, Osaka, Kobe, Tokyo, Yokohama, and Nagoya, as well as two Japanese universities: Kyoto and Kanagawa. The event, which included discussions with DP World and PSA container terminals, was initiated by IAPH vice president for Asia South / West, East & Middle East Ichio Motono (senior executive director, Yokohama Port Corporation); it marked an important milestone in India-Japan maritime cooperation. The 15-member visiting delegation, led by IAPH secretary general Masahiko Furuichi, included Sanada Hitoshi, president of North Japan Port Consultants, and IAPH regional representative for India Ennarasu Karunesan. The knowledge-exchange program focused on decarbonisation, climate and energy, digitalisation and risk and resilience, and was inaugurated by Sunil Paliwal, chairman, ChPA, KPL and Indian Ports Authority, who emphasised the importance of global collaboration in driving India’s maritime growth.
