#IAPH2025 awards dominated by Africa and Korea

Three standout ports from Africa and two from Korea were among the seven winners celebrated at the IAPH Sustainability Awards ceremony held on day two of the World Ports Conference in Kobe. At the gala dinner event, held at the Portopia Hotel, African ports claimed three of the top awards – Ghana Ports & Harbors Authority triumphed in the Community Building category, Kenya Ports Authority won in the Environmental Care category, and Benin’s Autonomous Port of Cotonou took home a second consecutive Akiyama award as runner-up from a developing country. Meanwhile, Korean ports won two awards – marking Korea’s third consecutive year of success: Incheon Port Authority for Infrastructure and Busan Port Authority for Health, Safety and Security. For the first time, a Japanese port – the Port of the city of Yokohama – also earned recognition in the coveted Climate and Energy category, while Port of Antwerp-Bruges claimed its fourth triumph with recognition for its APICA digital twin in the Digitalisation category. Selection was made by a 15-member jury from 112 accepted submissions and more than 7,600 public votes – both record highs. IAPH underscored a growing database of 516 best-practice projects, signalling an accelerating wave of sustainable transformation across global ports. You can read more here.
