Newly-upgraded IAPH World Ports Tracker launched

Last Friday at the latest IAPH-Mercator Media webinar, Theo Notteboom (University of Antwerp / Ghent University) and Thanos Pallis (University of Piraeus) presented the results of a newly-upgraded IAPH World Ports Tracker for 2025 having surveyed over 80 IAPH members. The world’s ports are executing on planned infrastructure investments, community building and environmental sustainability initiatives. However, important gaps still remain in future fuels readiness, carbon emissions reporting, digitalisation and gender equality. Supported by data from S&P Global and UNCTAD/ MDS Transmodal, the authors of the report also found overall lower container port productivity due to larger ships with increased call sizes as well as less frequent calls. Territories losing and gaining ground on liner connectivity were split, influenced by geopolitical developments. This new, upgraded version of the Tracker stores responses on the IAPH internal membership portal, permitting easy updates to track trends on an annual basis on what matters most to members. All IAPH members can access the full report in the secure area of the IAPH website by using their business address to register and an executive summary can be found in the news release
