IAPH colleagues visit India’s pioneer ports

A team from IAPH’s Tokyo-based finance and administration team led by secretary general Masahiko Furuichi visited Indian member ports in late February. Accompanied by IAPH regional representative Ennarasu Karunesan, the group, which included IAPH membership director Shinobu Yamamoto and IAPH director (technical committees) Takeshi Suzuki, visited Mormugao Port Authority, Chennai Port Authority and new member Kamarajar Port Authority from February 26-27. Last year, Mormugao Port Authority became the first Indian port to become an Incentive Provider in the Environmental Ship Index (ESI) scheme, thanks to the efforts of chairman N Vinodkumar. The trip included fruitful discussions with all ports around ESI, including the planned enhancements to the scheme beginning in 2026. The team also had the opportunity to meet with the Goa chief minister, who is responsible for overseeing numerous environmental initiatives in the state. Is your port ready to join ESI? If so, find out more on the ESI website or contact IAPH’s ESI liaison, Takeshi Suzuki.
