IAPH joins UNCTAD expert meeting on climate change

On 27 and 28 October, IAPH Technical Director Antonis Michail joined a virtual expert meeting organised by UNCTAD on climate change adaptation for seaports in support of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Participating in the panel session on decarbonisation of maritime transport, Antonis highlighted the relevant ongoing initiatives of IAPH and the World Ports Sustainability Program. He exchanged views with representatives of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and the Transport Section of UNCTAD. In line with the provision of the 2019 IMO Resolution on cooperation between ports and shipping, Antonis explained how world ports facilitate decarbonisation of shipping by offering incentives to best performing vessels, providing onshore power supply, ensuring safe and efficient bunkering of clean marine fuels, and enabling port call optimisation.
