– News from IAPH member port – the Longest Swing Bridge in Asia Has Inaugurated in Port of Kaohsiung

“The Bridge_Ports of KaohsiungGreat Harbor Bridge, the longest swing bridge in Asia, was inaugurated on July 6, 2020, and has become the most popular tourist attraction in the waterfront area of Port of Kaohsiung. The Bridge, built by Taiwan International Ports Co., Ltd.(TIPC) at Basin Dock No.3 of Port of Kaohsiung at a cost of USD 10 million, is both multifunctional and aesthetic. Its unique function of horizontal swing for 90 degree enables the bridge to maintain the waterway for ships while providing a convenient passage between the

Penglai Port Area (Penglai Wharf) and the Pier-2 Art Center.

The length of the Bridge is 110 meters which makes it the longest horizontally swing Bridge in Asia, and it’s opened to public from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The maximum capacity of the bridge is 500 pedestrians and cyclists, who will be evacuated under operation, which would take only 5 minutes for each 90-degree swing. When the bridge is fully opened, there would be a 40-meter-wide channel for the ships’ passage. Besides that, visitors can enjoy the view of wonderful seascape and significant constructions around Port of Kaohsiung from the streamlined observatory 3 meters high above the bridge. The best part is, instead of the30-minute walking distance between The Pier-2 Art Center and Penglai Wharf, it now only takes 2 minutes to walk through The Great Harbor Bridge.

The Great Harbor Bridge has become one of the must-see landmarks in Kaohsiung and attracted

tourists all over the world to witness the beauty of Port of Kaohsiung for its amazing transformation.”
