Following her presentation (‘Hinterland Connectivity-From Ports to Prosperity’) at the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank Transport Knowledge Week 2026 in Beijing (as reported in the 17 September edition of the Insider), IAPH development director for the greater China region Catherine Chow went on to meet with two key IAPH regular members in the region. First, Catherine visited Ningbo Zhoushan Port Zone and met with Ningbo Zhoushan Port Group to explore further co-operation with IAPH. Ningbo Zhoushan Port Zone has a coastline stretching across 220km that consists of 19 port areas; it owns more than 200 large deepwater berths for vessels over 10,000 dwt, and more than 115 large and super-large deepwater berths for vessels over 50,000 dwt. Catherine then visited Yangshan Port Zone in Shanghai and held a productive meeting with Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission. Yangshan Deepwater Port is the world’s largest deepwater port built on artificial islands and a strategic and key project for building Shanghai into an international shipping center.
