New issue of Ports & Harbors available now

The latest issue of Ports & Harbors magazine is available to read now. In this edition, Marika Calfas, CEO of NSW Ports and IAPH regional vice president for Asia, South East and Oceania, discusses the challenges and opportunities facing the port sector in 2026. Speaking with IAPH managing director, Patrick Verhoeven, Marika explores how to balance decarbonisation, digital transformation and supply chain challenges at such a critical time for the industry and amid rising geopolitical concerns. Also in this edition: Martijn Thijsen, director International at the Port of Rotterdam, underlines the need to balance short-term operational priorities with long-term sustainability and digitalisation objectives against shifting global trade and energy markets. An article on the 2026 IAPH World Ports Tracker report reflects a sector committed to steady sustainability attainment, yet wary of growing security threats. There is also an article examining issues relating to the safety of lithium-ion batteries in ports and the growing effort to manage this new risk factor. Finally, in our ‘How to’ article we look at practical ways to begin to enable the process of Port Call Optimisation (PCO) through data collaboration.
