CMF chair presents at UNCTAD Tanger Med workshop

Peter Alkema, the Climate and Energy technical committee chair of the Clean Marine Fuels Working Group was in Morocco at the end of November, supporting the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Smart Sustainable Ports (SSP) initiative in Tangier. In the words of the program’s coordinator Luisa Rodriguez, Peter’s participation in the workshop was invaluable because of his technical experiences at the Port of Amsterdam, which he shared via presentations including an overview of ‘The Big Picture – Global Trends in Alternative Fuels’ and a technical session on ‘Hydrogen & Alternative Fuels – Bunkering Focus’ as part of the UNCATD project plan to advance the energy transition of Tanger Med. With the project also now complete for the Mauritius Ports Authority, this week attention turns to the third of three African IAPH members taking part in this multi-year project which ends in December, namely the Ghana Ports & Harbours Authority. Luisa is in Tema this week and Peter will be participating virtually. The full results will be presented as part of an IAPH-Mercator media webinar in 2026. More information on IAPH’s tools for future fuels can be found here.
