Patrick supports CEM-Hubs development in Busan

The 16th Clean Energy Ministerial took place in Busan, Republic of Korea, 25-27 August, alongside the 10th gathering of Mission Innovation. IAPH managing director Patrick Verhoeven was present to discuss the latest developments on the CEM-Hubs initiative – a collaborative programme between the Clean Energy Ministerial, the International Chamber of Shipping and IAPH that aims to gather government support to build a network of hubs and maritime routes that will enable the transport of clean fuels from source of production to consumption. Patrick advocated for the development of a CEM-Hubs blueprint covering aspects of energy planning, port infrastructure, and maritime transition, to help plan the necessary investments. He pointed to IAPH’s Port Readiness Level tool for Marine Fuels, which allows ports to assess their readiness to provide bunkering of low- and zero-carbon fuels; and will allow for similar assessment around receiving vessels carrying such fuels as cargoes. Patrick also participated in a workshop on Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage, focusing on the potential of Onboard Carbon Capture (which is under consideration as an additional way to reduce carbon emissions from shipping), as well as the ministerial plenary session and a high-level dialogue on accelerating future fuels.
