#IAPH2025: recovery and redevelopment

Registrants for this year’s World Ports Conference in Kobe will have a unique opportunity to learn first hand about infrastructure resilience and port-city regeneration, in the 30th anniversary year of the Great Hanshin Earthquake. On 17 January 1995, the people of Kobe awoke to an earthquake that claimed thousands of lives and inflicted a complete collapse in infrastructure, communications, and transport. Yet within three days of the disaster, the port established temporary sailing routes to assist with the evacuation and support the movement of people and goods. Delegates can explore the resilience strategies that drove this recovery by booking their place on the technical visit to the Disaster Recovery Centre on 9 October. Plenary and breakout talks during #IAPH2025 will look at the lessons learned from the earthquake, and how the port and city created a common vision to reimagine the urban waterfront. #IAPH2025 takes place 7-9 October. Book your place today to take advantage of the limited-time early bird rate, ending 30 April.
