Hands-on solutions for sustainability and cyber-risk

In a first for the World Ports Conference, the agenda for the 2024 Hamburg edition included a full programme of practical solutions tours and workshops to complement the high-level keynotes and engrossing panel discussions that have come to define the event. These events included port solution excursions on 8 and 9 October to HafenCity Cruise Terminal and Cruise Terminal Steinwerder to explore Hamburg’s Onshore Power Supply (OPS) system, and to Container Terminal Eurogate to see how Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) has been equipping its largest container terminals with OPS. On 8 and 9 October, the University of Plymouth’s Cyber-SHIP Lab held Maritime Cyber Attack Mitigation Workshops focused on maritime port facilities cyber-risk management, using scenarios and exercises to help delegates understand risk, attack impacts and the importance of strong, evolving management practices. On 9 October, there were two concurrent and very lively play sessions of IAPH’s sustainability business game, Port Endeavor, moderated by IAPH partners UNCTAD TrainForTade and the Antwerp Flanders Port Training Center of Port of Antwerp-Bruges International. Finally, on 10 October the conference closed with a boat tour through the Port of Hamburg. The tour delved into the intelligent infrastructure, innovative mobility concepts, and energy efficiency strategies that are integral to the HPA’s vision of transforming the Port of Hamburg into a smartPORT.
