IAPH was delighted to reveal the winners of the #IAPH2024 Sustainability Awards during the gala dinner of the IAPH World Ports Conference in Hamburg on 9 October. 71 projects were submitted from over 50 ports, before five ports were selected – by both an expert jury and more than 4,500 members of the voting public – as category winners. The winners, by category, were: Climate and Energy: Ulsan Port – Green Methanol and Bio-diesel bunkering; Community Building: Chennai Port – Championing Community Empowerment and Sustainable Growth; Digitalization: Freeport of Riga Authority – Seamless 5G Connectivity in the Baltic Sea; Environmental Care: Port of Antwerp-Bruges – Species Protection Program; Infrastructure: Port of Açu – Low-Carbon Hydrogen and Derivatives Hub; Health Safety and Security: Ulsan Port – Port Cargo Working Safety Index. IAPH also presented the Akiyama Award to the highest placed IAPH Sustainability Awards finalist runner-up from a Least Developed Country, a Landlocked Developing Country or a Small Island Developing State. This year’s Akiyama Award winner was The Autonomous Port of Cotonou – Sustainable Transformation of Vendor Livelihoods.
