IAPH at IMO World Maritime Day reception

IAPH senior manager: Data Collaboration, Risk & Resilience Chloe Rowland attended the IMO’s annual World Maritime Day reception on the evening of Thursday 24 September. Held at the Delegate’s Lounge at IMO HQ on the Albert Embankment, the event was attended by professionals from across the industry shipping and ports sector as well as all IMO permanent representatives, and Chloe took the opportunity as liaison for two of IAPH’s core technical committees to connect with senior decision makers in attendance, including with Jeremy Greenwood, head of the Maritime Security Section at the IMO. The theme of World Maritime Day 2026 is ‘From Policy to Practice – Powering Maritime Excellence’, with the IMO emphasising ‘the importance of upholding and implementing the international regulatory framework that keeps shipping safe, secure and efficient, while protecting the people who work at sea’. IMO secretary-general Arsenio Dominguez marked the event with a speech acknowledging that theme and noting that geopolitical conflict had resulted in the deaths of dozens of innocent seafarers, and the disruption of global trade and critical supply chains.
