On 15 June, OceanScore, the administrator of Environmental Ship Index (ESI), held a dedicated webinar for port users to explain upcoming changes to the scheme – and if you missed it, you can now catch up via the on-demand edition. ESI is undergoing its most ambitious evolution to date with the advent of ESI Core – also known as ESI 2.0. Due to come online on 1 January 2027, ESI Core introduces updates to reflect today’s shipping realities and an evolving regulatory landscape, raising the bar for environmental practices to new, yet realistic, heights. The updated methodology strengthens incentives for measures that actively contribute to lower emissions, including cleaner fuels and technologies such as wind-assisted propulsion, air lubrication, or the use of onshore power. The webinar presents the key development areas of ESI Core and outlines the transition process. You can access the recording of the webinar here and the relevant presentations here. If you have further questions, please email IAPH’s contact points for ESI at OceanScore: Thomas Smith (ESI Core discussions, methodology implications, webinars) and André Silva (operational and portal-related questions).
