IAPH’s MoU with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) yielded further progress earlier this week, with the visit of a senior ADB representative to the IAPH Tokyo head office and to the Port of Tokyo. Yeşim Elhan-Kayalar, advisor, Office of the chief economist and director general of the Economic Research and Development Impact Department, visited IAPH’s office, where she met with Ichio Motono, vice president for Asia, South/West, East & Middle East, and Masahiko Furuichi, secretary general of IAPH. Yeşim focused on gathering information on best practices that could contribute to improving port efficiency in developing countries across Asia. To that end, officers from the Port and Harbor Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) provided her with an overview of national port policies and initiatives. Yeşim also visited the Outer Central Breakwater Container Terminal (Y2) at the Port of Tokyo, where she received a presentation on initiatives aimed at reducing traffic congestion around the container terminals, including an online system designed to alleviate congestion at container terminal gates, as well as a visualisation system that monitors traffic conditions around the container terminal area.
