The IAPH Clean Marine Fuels (CMF) and Port Readiness Level working groups of the Climate and Energy committee were already hard at work the week before #IAPH2025, hosted by the City of Kobe in downtown Kobe. The CMF Working Group reviewed the impressive suite of tools it has been working on this year and discussed the dissemination of these products, as well as a roadmap for future tools. The Port Readiness Level working group opened with a presentation made by the CO2-free Hydrogen Energy Supply-chain Technology Research Association’s (HySTRA) Yukichi Takaoka, alongside Takashi Yoshuyama of Kawasaki Heavy Industries. They explained their pilot project, which involved creating a hydrogen energy supply chain between Hastings Port in Australia and the HySTRA liquified hydrogen unloading facility located on Kobe Airport Island. World Ports Conference attendees were able to see that facility from the waterside on day three of #IAPH2025 with the world’s first liquified hydrogen tanker, Suiso Frontier, alongside. The PRL working group has an ambitious agenda, including the migration and enhancements of the online PRL tool, as well as the development of a Port Readiness Level tool for low- and zero-carbon fuels as a cargo.
