ESI unveils new website

ESI unveils new websiteAs part of its ongoing transformation process, the Environmental Ship Index (ESI) project has published a new website, which is linked to a new and robust database. Negotiations are meanwhile ongoing to further professionalise the administration of the project, which should come to a conclusion in the next month. The ESI project was designed to stimulate emission-friendly shipping by providing an index which port authorities and other incentive providers can use to give incentives to operators of seagoing vessels with an emission performance that is better than what international norms require. ESI is operational since 2011. Over the years, the program was successful in attracting ports and incentive providers as well ship owners and ship operators. The ESI program currently covers 57 ports and incentive providers from all over the globe. The ESI database counts 8,238 vessels at present, which represents about 16% of the world fleet.
