IAPH invites entries from ports worldwide in five project award categories with a special award for ports in developing countries
To encourage its members to further share their sustainability projects through the World Ports Sustainability Program (WPSP) and to reward best practices, the International Association of Ports and Harbors has upgraded its existing award scheme into six ‘World Ports Sustainability Awards’. The new scheme features five project awards linked to the WPSP themes that are open to all members and one specific award for member ports in developing countries.
Project awards will be given to the best entries submitted for: 1) digital optimisation of infrastructure; 2) facilitation of energy transition; 3) safety and security as integrated part of business; 4) community support for port development; 5) port authority leadership in good corporate governance. The award for member ports in developing countries is based on an essay contest demonstrating how the author’s port is contributing to one of these five themes.
“The WPSP project portfolio already demonstrates that ports worldwide are investing in sustainability across a diverse range of topics”, commented IAPH Managing Director Patrick Verhoeven, “With the new awards scheme we want to reward excellence at our prestigious award ceremony in May next year and encourage all our members to share their projects with the world at large.” An international jury will evaluate the entries and shortlisted projects will be presented for an online public vote. The winners will be announced at a gala dinner during next year’s IAPH World Ports Conference, which is to be held 6-10 May 2019 in Guangzhou, China.
