IAPH Asia/Oceania Regional Meeting
Karachi, Pakistan
14-17 February 2006
Attended by some 50 delegates from 20 countries, the 7th IAPH Asia/Oceania
Regional Meeting was held in Karachi, Pakistan, 14-17 February 2006, hosted
by Karachi Port Trust (Chairman, Vice Admiral Ahmad Hayat).
The two-day meeting was honored to have the presence of Mr. Zia-ur-Rehman,
Secretary of Ports and Shipping, Government of Pakistan, address the audience.
Concurrently held was a port forum, which was attended by 300 plus participants
from Pakistani ports and shipping sector, a clear indication of the fact
that the coutry's economy is booming with its total cargo volume and container
traffic dramatically growing.
The forum consisted of five working sessions, where a dozen of international
port experts made a presentation under five working sessions, addressing
a good blend of local, regional and international issues such as new port
strategies, infrastructure development in Pakistan, trade facilitation

On the morning of 15 February, the IAPH members in the region met to discuss
such issues as the vacancy of an Asia/Oceania seat in the IAPH Executive
Committee, port training/familiarization program proposed by ASEAN Port
Association Malaysia, etc., under the chairmanship of IAPH 1st Vice President,
Datin Paduca O.C. Phang, Port Klang Authority, Malaysia.
