IAPH Exco Meeting
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
22 - 25 October 2007
The IAPH Executive Committee (Exco) met in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 22-25
October, 2007, under the chairmanship of President O.C. Phang, hosted by
Port Klang Authority. It was attended by 48 IAPH members from 18 countries,
including the IAPH Officers, Exco members (4 in person, 6 in proxy) and
Technical Committee members.
Prior to the full Exco session, the participants were taken to Malacca for a historical tour of the city on 21 October, and the latter part of the meeting took place in Genting Highlands, thanks to our host's superb arrangements.
Of major agenda items, the Exco focused its discussion on the followings:
1) Streamlining IAPH meetings
With the background of IAPH members becoming very much occupied with their
own business and the resultant poor attendance of the previous Exco meetings
held in autumn every year, the Secretary General suggested that the Exco
meet from now on in conjunction with Mid-term Board meeting in an even-numbered
year and Conference in an odd-numbered year, rather than meeting in autumn
every year on its own. The proposal was made simply to alleviate the possible
physical and financial burden to be born by attendants. As a consequence,
the Exco unanimously agreed to and endorsed the proposal. It was also agreed
that the Exco meet by correspondence to address an issue of importance
to the Association as and when required in the future.
2) Future format of IAPH Conference
To follow up with a decision made by the IAPH Board of Directors in Houston
in May 2007, the Exco endorsed that the duration of future IAPH conferences
be shortened from the present 7 days to 4 days, starting on Monday and
ending on Thursday and making a half-day technical port tour on Friday
optional. It was confirmed that this new conference format would start
from the Genoa Conference in 2009 that will be held from 25 to 28 May 2009.
3) Updates on IAPH Conference in Genoa, 2009
Dr. Bussolo, Conference Vice President for the 26th IAPH Conference, Genoa,
Italy, made an updates on the event, during which provisional conference
registration fees in ranges were proposed. The proposal was supported by
Exco and it was confirmed that a final decision would be made by a Board
meeting by correspondence that would be held in due course of time before
the end of the year.
