IAPH Africa/Europe Regional Meeting

On February 28, some 150 delegates from 20 countries gathered for the opening
ceremony of IAPH Africa/Europe Regional Meeting in Sines, Portugal.
Sines
is on the south west coast of Portugal and is known as the birthplace of
Vasco da Gama, one of the most successful explorers in the European Age
of Discovery, commanding the very first ship to sail directly from Europe
to India.
Representing the host, Administração do Porto de Sines, SA, Ms. Lídia Sequeira,
APS Executive President of the Board, welcomed the delegates. The meeting
was also joined by IAPH President, Mr. Thomas Kornegay, Port of Houston
and Immediate Past President, Mr. Pieter Struijs, Port of Rotterdam.
On 27 February, the Africa/Europe Regional Meeting was held under the chairmanship
of Mr. Gichiri Ndua, IAPH 2nd Vice President. Following the regional meeting,
four sessions were organized on the followoing topical issues to hear presentations
by the guest speakers assembling from the region.
- "Motorways of the Sea"
- "Port Project Financing"
- "IT Applications and Training in Ports"
- "Maritime Developments"
