IAPH Africa/Europe Regional Meeting

Some 150 delegates from 25 countries assembled in Abuja, Nigeria, for the
6th PAPC (Pan African Ports Cooperation) Conference/ IAPH Africa/Europe
Regional Meeting, November 20-24.
At the Opening Ceremony on November 21, Barr. Muhammed Habib Aliyu, Nigerian
Minister of State for Transport, Chief Adebayo Sarumi, Managing Director/CEO
of Nigerian Ports Authority, Mr. Silvio Barros Vinhas, President of PMAWCA,
Mr. Abdalla Hemed Mwaruwa, President of PAPC and PMAESA, Mr. Gichiri Ndua,
IAPH Second Vice President, and Dr. Satoshi Inoue, IAPH Secretary General
delivered their messages.
It was a happy and nice surprise for the delegates to find Mr. Alhaji B.M.
Tukur, former General Manager of Nigerian Ports Authority, who served IAPH
Vice President (1980 - 1982) among guest speakers. After his speech at
the Opening Ceremony, IAPH 50th Anniversary Plaque was given to him by
Secretary General Inoue in appreciation of his long dedicated contribution
to IAPH activities.
Main agenda of the Africa/Europe Regional Meeting included:

It has been held annually since it's first meeting in Abidjan, Cote D'Ivoire, December 2001, however, is going to be held every two years in future. - Port Study Tours for Promising Young Professionals of African Ports
Even though applications are already closed, it was agreed that keen applicants will be on a waiting list. Fer van de Laar, IAPH Europe Office, is now working on locating those applicants in host ports.
With many distinguished speakers from African/European countries, there
were three sessions discussing on "Port Competitiveness", "Regional
Development" and "Environmental and Safety/Security Issues".
