Autonomous port since 1925, the Port of Bordeaux Authority is a state owned company. At the heart of an Euro regional market with a population of over 20 millions. The Port of Bordeaux developed progressively, alongside the largest estuary in Europe, 6 specialized terminals, suitable for all kinds of ships, goods and packaging:
Bordeaux: Cruise ships
Bassens: General cargo/containers/grain and oilseed/wood and forest products
Ambes: Oil and chemical products
Blaye: Grain
Pauillac: Oil products
Le Verdon: Containers and free port
The Port of Bordeaux is connected to the five continents through 300 regular links. With a traffic of 9 millions tons, the Port of Bordeaux is an active partner in the regional economy; it has stepped up its strategy aimed at increasing competitiveness which is not restricted simply to reception equipment, but also involves the entire port community. A partnership with local authorities, the European Union and the State has enable the creation of a feeder terminal, a timber complex, and develop one of the oil terminals as well as the setting up of a customs free area at Le Verdon. Responsible for the largest estuary in Europe, the Port of Bordeaux participates in durable development projects through ecological audits, a water quality study for the estuary and the ecological management of the estuary islands.
