Port of Aarhus was established in 1845 and today the second-largest multi-purpose port and the largest container port in Denmark. The harbour is well located in the mouth of the Baltic Sea. Port of Aarhus has a great potential for developing its present container handling business into a Danish hub for deep-sea traffic.
The Container port has 1,300 m quay and five Post Panamax cranes, which we expect to increase by another three cranes in 2009. Two terminal operators, APM Terminals and Cargo Service, are operating weekly calls by Maersk Line between Europe and East Asia and an efficient feeder network, which covers more than 50 regular destinations.
Port of Aarhus is known for cost effectiveness, high efficiency and reliability. The ongoing expansion of the port is carried out according to a Master Plan, aiming at a capacity of 20 million tons and 1 million TEUs (lo-lo) per year in 2022.
