Port of Xiamen is a famous natural deep-water seaport, located on west coast of Taiwan Strait. Port of Xiamen has been a hub port and one of the eight container truck line ports and a basic port to support shipping between mainland and Taiwan Island. It is composed by Dongdu Port Zone, Haicang Port Zone, Songyu Port Zone, Eastern Port Zone and Passenger Port Zone. At present, the port has 79 productive berths, 23 of which are over 10,000-ton-class, maximum berthing capacity reaches 100,000 tons. The port has a 43-kilometer-long and 14.5-meter-depth fairway through which vessels with deadweight of 100,000 metric tons can go in and out taking tide. Now the port has more than 110 container shipping lines connecting Port of Xiamen and major ports of Asia, North America, South America, Europe, Mediterranean, the Persian Gulf, Africa, Oceania. Port of Xiamen will handle 48 million tons of cargo, including 3.35 million TEUs of containers in 2005. And it plans to invest 14.5 billion Yuans to construct large deepwater container berths and 100,000-ton-class fairway from the year of 2006 to 2010. This will further promote vessel service ability of the port, and make Port of Xiamen a key international container hub port.
