As the world largest bulk port and coal exporting gateway, playing an important role for China’s foreign trade, Port of Qinhuangdao was built in 1898, as the only self-opened port authorized by Guang Xu, the emperor of Qing Dynasty. The port enjoys favorable natural conditions free from ice and silt. The railway track lines of Datong-Qinhuangdao, Beijing-Qinhuangdao, Beijing-Shanhaiguan and Beijing-Shenyang highway directly run into the Port. The economic hinterland spreads out over many provinces, municipal cities and autonomous regions in the Northeast, the North, and the Northwest China.
As present, the coal terminals of the port stand at the top in scale nation-wide and are constructed with the automatic facilities for coal loading and unloading and the oil, bulk cargo and container terminals are equipped comparatively advanced as well. 42 of the 45 operation berths are over 10,000dwt. The overall designed annual capacity has reached 223 million tons, 187 million tons of which for coal handling. The coal both shipped and exported takes more than 40 percent of the whole in China and the port thereby becomes the main passage for coal transportation from the North to the South China.
Playing the world leading role in energy transport, the port will forge ahead unceasingly to be the first-class terminal operator.
