<Mission>
- Monitor trends in environmental areas that affect ports including, but not limited, air quality, dredging/dredged material disposal, soil remediation, ballast water, habitats, ship wastes and reception facilities.
- Provide information on port environmental matters to the association concerning positions put forth on behalf of IAPH at international organizations such as IMO, IALA, UNCTAD, ILO, etc.
- Develop a Green Port Program and develop framework.
- Coordinate with PIANC Environmental Commission by active participation of IAPH members on PIANC work groups, consistent with the IAPH-PIANC joint agreement.
- Maintain a close liaison with other environmental and dredging organizations such as AAPA, CEDA, WODA, USACE, IDC and others.
<Work Plan 2007/2009>
- Provide recommendations for IAPH representation at IMO at the London Convention and the Marine Environmental Protection Committee, in particular, closely monitor and report on developments of air emission regulations
- Tackle the inadequacy of port reception facilities in accordance to IMO's Action Plan, making close co-operation with Industry Reception Facility Forum
- Produce an annotated list of references concerning port environmental management, in particular, compile and re-arrange documents, presentations and data distributed at past IAPH conferences/meetings for each of key issues
- Seek out information on “Green” programs of ports and other organizations to understand how those programs were developed, what they do and the benefits of those programs
- Develop and promote an IAPH specification for ship to shore electrical connections for shore power, in particular, take active part in ISO/TC8/SC3 and closely monitor relevant discussions at IMO
- Develop "Tool Box for Air Emission Control", which provide basic information of various measures for air emission control at port
- Collect examples and best practices about other environmental problems, such as noise/lighting etc. surrounding ports
